Say NO to Salt!
Sodium is found in all plant foods, naturally! Tomatoes, celery, mamy apples, guava, passion fruit and especially dried fruits are particularly high in sodium.
It’s unnecessary to add any additional salt to our diet – except as a taste preference. And as all processed food companies know: Put enough salt on something and almost anything will taste good. Take away the salt – & in order to enjoy the food it has to actually taste good to begin with!
Too much salt in our diet causes numerous health problems including high blood pressure & heart disease and therefore given the health hazards of consuming too much sodium it’s best to avoid adding it to our food.
Ok. So why are we told salt is good for us then? Because as they say ‘people love to hear good news about bad habits’ & salt is no exception. Some salts have minute amounts of minerals, along with all the salt that’s bad for us. Because something is ‘less bad’ doesn’t make it healthy!
So where do we get the salt we need then? The average whole food, plant • based diet gets 1000 to 1200 mg salt daily, just from fruits and vegetables with NO added salt.
So there you have it! Enjoy the flavors of your natural food and save your health and drip that puffy, bloated feeling. They say it takes 21 days to create a habit: challenge yourself to a 21 day salt-free diet and see how you feel. You’ll notice your taste buds change significantly over this time and we find that after 21 days most people PREFER to get their sodium naturally from their whole food plant based diet.
